July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

The 2025 theme for minority Mental Health Month is " Advancing Commitments to Eliminate Health Disparities". It is essential that individuals, organizations and communities all work in partnership to improve the health outcomes of minority populations.

Minorities are less likely to receive diagnosis and treatment for mental illnesses, and often receive poorer quality of mental health care or have limited access to mental health services.

The Birthing Project is trying to be a part of the process of accessing support for mental health services by encouraging our Sister Friend volunteers to become certified in Mental Health First Aid. This can be a critical first step in encouraging the identification of mental health support needs and can lead to a referral for mental health services.

Outcomes that matter to them and are informed by their unique experiences are essential to addressing the mental health needs of minority populations.
